bitjob #6

Well that worked, didn’t it? Bitjob 6 is what podcasting is all about; doing things on a whim. If this were Sesame Street, todays show would brought to you by the letter R for ROCK. I’ve decided to move to a bi-weekly podcast, having one with lots of music on a Thursday and one with Skype calls, interviews and other shizz on a Monday night, not getting away from the fact that bitjobs is a music show, I do find myself running out of time on a lot of the shows, so we’ll see how we go.

Today I play a pretty wide range of tracks from Garageband.com, excitedly play Allen Wentz’s (he used to be the bassist for Wild Cherry!!;Play that Funky Music among other things) track Any Other Thursday (quite fitting really), show Samantha Murphy some love and play I Wanna Go Home from her new Album; Somewhere Between Starving and Stardom.

Monday nights (my time) is now going to be my Skype, interview type show (if I can get it working) and I now need your help to gather people, topics and the like which we can discuss. If it works out, I’ll carry it on past the next few weeks and such. My hope is to be able to get one or more of the artistes that I’m playing on the show onto these Skypey shows. If you think you might be interested in taking part in an organised*gasp* interview, drop me an email to bitjobbage@gmail.com and I’ll set the ball rolling.

Now, I’m going to finish listening to the Star Wars mashup podcast and suggest that you do the same as soon as you’ve finished listening to bitjob 6!

Beard Stroking ensues

I stumbled across RadioBlogClub while I was surfing around earlier and it seems like an interesting idea. AFAIK, this isn’t the same one that has recently made an appearance on Dawn and Drewbut I could be wrong, of course. Anyway, what it basically does is allow people to stream shows for any podcast that has their shows converted into the correct format (RBS if I was reading the instructions correctly) through their blog/website or whatever. This could be good for allow people to check out shows before they commit to downloading them or also just for when you don’t have the resources available to download at work, school whatever.

I’ve started moving the mp3s over to the archive.org but I don’t really know how long it typically takes for a “curator” to look at submissions and approve them. Hoping its before I use my bandwidth up for this month…

Oooh, bitchy

Nick Starr posted a pretty attention grabbing post on podcastalley about the current state of the voting over there and his opinions of the slating that DnD have been getting recently. Now I’m someone who *was* an active DnD listener and particpaterer on their forum pre-finding-other-podcasts and the impression I got from their fanbase was that they worshipped the very ground they walked on. I mean, Nick Starr managed to raise over $700 to buy Drew an iPod photo, which is pretty damn impressive. However, I tend to agree with a lot of the opinions on the alley at the moment. The whole idea of podcasting (as I see it) is to get a wide variety of shows onto your iPod/mp3 player and sample of bit of everything before deciding what you like.

There are other podcasters coming through on the alley now that have seen the success of DnD over the past few months and attempt to imitate it. Frankly most of them suck. I know they say that imitation is the best form of flattery, but when its done badly there’s no getting away from the fact that they suck. I noticed a while ago that Drew no longer visits the alley. This might be because he was sick of getting flamed by FTL for allegedly fixing votes (he’s has now seemingly given up getting to number one this month, how strange) or just because he and Drew are more than busy with their show and forum (couldn’t get the bugger to load, so if anyone has a current post count hit me up).

The fact is, as podcasting grows in recognition there will be more and more new shows arriving, storming the charts and leaving. To launch an attack on the alley and its voting system (more or less every point Nick brought up theFerf had an answer for) must’ve been one of those spur of the moment things, because it didn’t seem like it was too well researched or planned. Nick has me on Skype and is welcome to drop me a message or anything if he wants to some time.

Ready to Rock

All is well again. I’ve moved most of the crap from the other blog, updated me feeds and am now ready to roll again. Let me know your comments on the new theme, I might keep it this simple or try and find a suitable banner/piccy to stick up there in the future. I’m owed some moola from a business venture I embarked on a while back that fell through, so hopefully bitjobs.net or something like it will be up next week or so.

bitjob 5.5 might be on its way tomorrow, depending how I feel and how the day pans out. Part of me wants to do it and part of me wants to wait and get the weekend out of the way. I’ll keep you posted.

WordPress and Strange Errors

Well here I am, on WordPress and all excited about the brand spanking new look that I’ve got for the blog. Been having some weird ass errors to start with though. Most of the time I’m redirected to some Netherlands site about hosting and Big Brother, which weirded me out a lot. After about three hours of shouting at my comp, all seems to be well which is even weirdererer.

This is also a test post to see if my feed updates when I post, so excuse the short post.
