Tiny Cinema and Dan Greenaway (rase) live at We Are Birmingham

Even though The Midsweep is “between stations” at the moment, I’m still beavering away to bring you some live music each month. Thanks to my good friends at We Are Birmingham, I can do that. Every 3rd Friday of the month, from 6pm – 7pm, completely free of charge.

Very excited this month as we’ve got Tiny Cinema and Dan Greenaway from rase. I’ve seen Tiny Cinema (aka Darren) a few times around Birmingham and have always been blown away. Dan played for me on The Midsweep last year, and was probably one of my favourite live guests. You can listen to one of his live tracks below.

The event is free, and you’re welcome to bring your own booze and nibbles and you should definitely check out the shop while you’re there.

Here’s the blurb from the Facebook event

Two acts for you this month in the shape of Tiny Cinema (http://braveorinvincible.co.uk/artists/tiny-cinema/) and Dan Greenaway of rase (http://www.myspace.com/raseuk), both performing live in the splendid We Are Birmingham Shop (link to mappage).

The first signing to Birmingham based Brave or Invincible Records, Tiny Cinema draws comparisons to Bon Iver, Elliot Smith and Wheat, you can check out his album by visiting the link above.

Dan Greenaway performed on The Midsweep last year, as well as being a part of the first Rhubarb Presents gig. Currently working with Gavin Monaghan at The Magic Garden (Editors, The Twang, Ocean Colour Scene) on their debut album, rase have supported the likes of Casino (Feat. Adam – Stereophonics & Dean – Feeder) and Them is Me (Ex-Reef).

The event is completely free of charge and you’re welcome to bring your own booze and nibbles.

Hopefully see you there for some good honest live acoustic loveliness.

Can we start that again please?

2011 hasn’t exactly started the way I’d have liked it to. Last week I was recovering from partying a little bit too hard over New Year and everything I wrote in my pre New Year post, didn’t actually make any sense to me. The second week of 2011 started with the exhaust falling off my car and a subsequent ?200 bill to get it replaced.

The difference between this week and last? I’m actually in a good mood. A few hours this morning writing up Terms and Conditions for Wild Ilk wouldn’t usually get much enthusiasm out of me, but today, it’s different. I’ve got a meeting with Scratch Radio on Friday about taking The Midsweep over to them, which would fill the void that’s been left since I stopped doing it only a few weeks ago.

So I’m officially declaring the first week of 2011 null and void, this is where it starts and it’s going to be a good one.
